This past weeks I’ve been exposed to “very intellectual” church goers both online and in person, who make it a point to intimidate others because of their perceived depth of knowledge on the word of God. The arrogance, the self righteousness and pure blindness to what Christianity is all about is actually really sad. 1 Corinthians 3:20 says “The Lord knows the thoughts of the [humanly] wise, that they are useless.” I was actually supposed to be writing a blog post about “Identifying False Prophets” but God just laid on my heart to share this post instead.
I will still post on “Identifying False Prophets”, as God imparts what I should write in due time. My spirit has been so troubled for the past week, because I just could not stop thinking about the terrible effect certain personalities we walk in as Christians have in the body of Christ and to onlooking unbelievers. I spoke to my spiritual mentor ( Prophet T.A Gilgal) about the whole thing and he shed soooooooooooo much revelation and shared some scripture with me which helped put me at ease.
First of all, please get the point of this post. It is not to bash anyone well versed with the word of God and it is not to drag any Christian💞. Quite the contrary actually. God values holiness and he wants us to know his word, not just on paper but in our hearts. His word is what transforms us by His Spirit. So let me just clarify that! So unto the matter at hand.
THE “INTELLECTUAL” CHRISTIAN
Attributes: Believes in God, well versed with scripture but uses it selectively to suit a particular part of the argument which favours them, uses God’s word in a manipulative manner and out of context, rejects the part of scripture that doesn’t suit their lifestyle. Infact I like how my spiritual mentor defined the Intellectual church🔥.
He said “They have their own mental God and Christ formed within the parameters of their own perception of what God should be. They interpret scripture out of pride and find heretic routes or more coherent biblical interpretations to suite their greed, lust and so called standard of civilization! ” – Prophet T.A Gilgal 🔥🔥. Guys, I had to read what he said like 3 times!
We tend to misinterpret the verse from 2 Timothy 2:15 which says “study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. We think we are approved by studying the word. But how can God know we are rightly dividing the word of truth without our actions showing this?
You are not approved by what you know, but rather by what you do. It’s about applying the knowledge. Taking the word and putting it into action. Knowledge without the practical manifestation of what is known is useless. James 3:13 says “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom”. And I quote from Prophet Gilgal, “Wisdom is Applied Knowledge”. Imagine this, you study medicine for 6 years, but only do theory and no practicals. So you know exactly how to perform a heart surgery in theory. But if you have never actually performed a heart surgery, you cannot be approved – “pass to qualify”. We need to study the word, so that we know how to act and mirror Christ.
HAVE YOU EVER!
Have you ever been in the presence of a Christian, who just exudes this kind of “self righteous, I know it all” attitude? I have encountered plenty, from church elders, to pastors, to people who condemn everything a church does because they think they know better, to the rich church members (I specified them because some churches give the rich members positions in the church, even though these people may not always be called by God which leads to a false spiritual authority and pride).
And as we know, Social Media is such an amazing platform for evangelism. But to lead people to Christ we have to know how to rebuke sin, without judging and how to be set apart, without being self righteous. Only the Holy Spirit can judge hearts and convict people to change and He is the one who makes us Holy. The moment we begin to feel as though we can be holy by our own doing, that’s when pride comes in. We no longer see the Holy Spirit as our helper, but view ourselves as the source of our “righteousness”.
Pride and Arrogance
Someone walking in the spirit of pride due to self righteousness and false holiness cannot receive correction or rebuke. And so they are unable to learn or properly advance the way God will want them to. They look down at others as if God loves them less. Or as if they will go to a different heaven than the rest of us.
They quickly turn away from winning souls for Christ, to gaining popularity for themselves because of their ” knowledge “. All of a sudden they want to gain all the high positions in church because people will get to see them display their sense more. All of a sudden they want to gain more online following not so much for kingdom business, but just for the fame and praises from people. With fame comes jealousy and envy. Always comparing your self with others and putting pressure on yourself to maintain this holy facade.
They cannot receive impartation because they lack humility. They cannot submit. And submission is a kingdom principle for elevation. And we learnt that to receive impartation, you have to serve under, with the exception of receiving impartation directly from God. The anointing always flows from the top. This means you hinder the activation of your spiritual gifts.
Miss the point
Completely. God is not impressed by our intellect! You actually mock God, when you say you know his word but don’t act like it and instead make a mockery of people who are trying their best to know Him. The Pharisees mocked Jesus because they thought they knew it all. Jesus was a knower and Doer of the word. They were only knowers. They flaunted their education, intellectual capacities and knowledge of the law, despising those aspects of God’s kingdom that made one a true believer in God – Prophet Gilgal.
Jesus said in John 5:39-40 “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. “I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts”. Waow. Let God help us
Religious Christians believe they will gain salvation by deeds alone. They follow many doctrine laws which they believe makes them ” holier”, whereas these rules, rituals and forms of appeasement only keeps them bound.
Turn others away from God
Who would wanna remain in a church were they’re being judged every Sunday by people who are religious, especially new Christians who are trying to come into churches.
SO WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS?
Here comes the light🙌! So what Prophet Gilgal shared was too good to even paraphrase, so with permission I’ll just share it as is. Are y’all ready?
God cannot fully be explained deeply by anyone. He’s beyond any mind, philosophy or thinking. Those who worship God based on logical explanations get lost in the philosophical parole of the so called “intellectuals”, whose God is actually their pride in temporary achievements or twists in their words. But those who humble themselves and seek to experience him will encounter the deep mysteries of heaven. No matter how deep you think you know me or can teach others of me, that’s a lie until you experience/encounter me in a relationship.
God is not a logical being. He is a Spirit and those who worship him must do so in spirit and in truth. The place of truth entails a heart empty of it’s own achievements, styles, systems or formats. Spirits don’t depend on anything physical, they only need physical things to be able to express themselves in the physical world. So God wants you to come to him as a spirit as well, not as flesh. This means to come to him with your heart, not your brains.
So I just have to insert a praise break here 🙌🙌.
Identify yourself as you are known to him in his word – A Royal people, A chosen generation, co-heirs with Christ!!!!! A spiritual life is more than just a state of mind. It should be a product of what we read, reflected through our character, words, thought patterns, value systems, how we look at life, who we want to marry, etcs. And the only way we can grow our spiritual life is to study the word. Colossians 3:16 ” Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.
Prophet T.A Gilgal.
Hmmmm a lot to take in right?
I am currently doing much self introspection to be sure that I also I’m living the kind of life that truly matters. I pray God helps me in this faith journey to come out of any personality traits that are standing in my own way to encountering Him fully.
