First it was Joan’s biggest online secret revealed, then it was improving work productivity and now we’re shooting straight into the supernatural. Well, that escalated fast 😂. There are 3 kinds of people who have clicked to read this post

  1. Those genuinely interested in knowing about the subject matter, like I was. Hugs to you! 💞
  2. Those who could careless and just want to browse through not really to take anything from the post but rather to keep their opinion and read the comments, that’s if they even make it to the end.
  3. Those who even before reading the post, click it with fire comments ready to disprove of anything I say. Probably fuming and thinking “christians think everything is demonic”.

To all the committee members, you are most welcomed. There’s enough space for us all. This post was inspired by a conversation I had with my amazing friend Michelle Danso. Last month she asked me : “IS YOGA DEMONIC?”. She then suggested that I write a detailed blog post. So here we go! May we proceed please cause we have much ground to cover!

Let’s dissect the background of this thing yeah? Yoga is a spiritual Hindu practice which involves various acts such as breath control, adopting specific body postures and meditation. It is practiced for health and relaxation purposes. This is the universal definition. So yoga cannot be separated from Hinduism or spirituality. It originated in Ancient India, also practiced in religions such as Buddhism and Janism. Janism is an ancient Indian religion where there is no belief in the existence of God. While the basis of Hinduism is in their way of life, more like a concept of how to live a good life. For both Buddhism and Hinduism, they believe specific images/idols are not lifeless but actually carry their gods, hence they offer rituals, worship sessions or prayers to these lifeless forms.

The 7 Chakras…

The 7 Chakras are believed to be energy centres located from the spine running upwards to the crown of ones head, in Hindu/Buddhist and Jadist religions. Chakra basicically means a “cycle”. The word Chakravartin appears in Hindu scripture which means “King who turns the wheel of his empire, in all directions from the center, represtning his influence and power”. While in Bhuddism Chakra connotates reincarnation, where one goes through a cycle of being reborn 6 times.

Where are these Chakras believed to be located?

The first one is believed to be at the base of the spine, called muladhara/the root, second one at the pubic region/belly button called Svadhisthana/sensual. The third one is believed to be located between the rip cage and belly button called manipura/power, forth one at the center of the chest/heart called anahata/love, fifth one at the throat called vissudha/communication, sixth one between the eyebrows called anja/perception and finally the seventh one is believed to be located at the crown of ones head called sahasrara/universal connection.

What’s the connection between chakras and yoga?

The whole point of yoga is to awaken/activate and balance your chakras through specific breathing techniques, meditation, visualization and postures. Majority of the postures focus on activity around the belly button, activity of the spine and pressure applied in selective points around the body. The believe is that by balancing chakras, one generates or awakens what is called kundalini energy, which then leads to the awakening of a believed “third eye”.

What exactly is kundalini and the third eye?

Kundalini means “coiled snake”, “forming ringlets”, ” serpent-like”. So kundalini energy will therefore mean energy generated from a serpent. This is basic Wikipedia. You can google for yourself guys, I’m not even making this up. Further definitions describe kundalini as a spiritual life force located at the base of the spine, conceptualized as a coiled serpent. So please READ THIS TWICE: THE PRACTICE OF KUNDALINI YOGA IS TO AROUSE THE SLEEPING SERPENT FROM IT’S COILED BASE IN THE SPINE, THROUGH BALANCING THE 6 CHAKRAS. Them : Yoga aims to “liberate” one from human consciousness to achieve their total creative potential as a mightier life form… Me : Laughs in Eve at the garden of Eden.

The link between Eve, the serpent and the opening of eyes

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Guys, the first time “eyes” were opened in the bible it led to the fall of mankind. The devil was and is a sneaky lieing serpent. He said oh no, you won’t die, just eat it. But by eating it, our supposed to be immortal bodies became mortal. Because of what, DISOBEDIENCE! What part of the devil is a liar don’t we understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the beginning, his aim has been to separate us from God by making us believe we can control our own lives!

So now that we all know what yoga is, please keep these in mind – ” Specific bodily postures and meditation “. Taken from the direct definition. Also think about this – Yoga involves bowing down in different positions, specific arm movements and humming. What does this remind you of? Don’t you do this when you’re worshiping God and in the spirit? Psalm 95:6 “Come, let us bow down and worship. Let us kneel before the lord our maker”.  Nehemiah 8:6 ” Then Ezra blessed the lord the great God And all the people answered “Amen, Amen” while lifting up their hands, then they bowed low and worshiped the lord with their face to the ground”.

We bow down in adoration, lift our hands, dance. Our whole body becomes controlled by the Holy Spirit when we worship. You move differently than you would … if you for example listened to lil Wayne. So bowing, raising hands, and adopting Holy spirit led postures are forms of worship. When we do these things, we invite the Holy Spirit in our midst. Because God abides in the praises of his people. Psalm 22:3 “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel”.That’s why you feel better after worship. You have engaged in something spiritual – with God. So when we worship something/someone other than God, we give it the highest significance in our lives. It becomes our “god”. Also, don’t we meditate too as Christians on the word of God?

Universal definition: Meditation is a practice were one focuses their mind on a particular thought, or tries to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. So, if yoga is a spiritual practice which involves meditation, what spirit is actually being evoked? Because it’s definitely NOT the Holy Spirit. How do we know this? The foundation of Yoga is rooted in religions that do not believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Infact they exclude the belief in a God all together. But then, there are spirits involved in Yoga because it is a spiritual practice. Just not the spirit of God. So I ask again, what sort of spirits are these honestly?

Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.

We are to do this by meditating on the word of God. Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Which is why when we meditate on the word of God long enough, we take on the person of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”. Meditating on the word of God requires discipline. But if you are meditating on anything outside of the word of God, then you will attract the spirit attached to that thing. For example, watching porn frequently opens a route for the demon of lust. So what spirit is one attracting when they meditate outside of the word of God?

images (1)

Think about it. Why must the postures be so specific? Why so much discipline? Daniel 3:5 says “As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up” . Anyone who did not bow (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) were thrown into the fiery furnace! It was that serious. There are many other instances in the bible were people rebelled from God and worshipped/bowed down to idols. Think about the act of Christian worship and meditation. It’s the same attributes. Only difference is, one is of God, the other is not of God.

Just like when we worship God we invite the Holy Spirit in our midst, when you do yoga, you’re unknowingly worshiping idols you know nothing of, and opening up yourself to the spirits they operate in which can lead to them possessing you – kundalini awakening, opening the 3rd eye, awakening the snake in your spine, whatever you want to call it.Talmbout health benefits, balance, mental stability, blah blah blah.

If you want all these benefits, then just do normal stretching, aerobics and other clean exercises – Not Yoga. By the time you are entering yoga, it’s not just basic simple stretching anymore, it’s a supernatural territory you want to avoid.

I watched the testimony of a Christian who’d been deeply engraved in kundalini yoga practices and almost lost it but came back to truth. He explained how he tried to open his “third eye” with Yoga by awakening the snake in his spine, which is apparently one of the final stages of Yoga. When you read up enough about yoga, you find that it is very plainly demonic. But we Christians are too gullible and lazy to meditate on the word of God. We just jump into anything, forgetting that the devil does not come in a red garment, he comes dressed as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light”. He even appeared as a “helper” wanting to turn stone into bread for Jesus if he bowed down to him. You think the devil does not like worship? He will do anything to get it! If he could try to sway Jesus, what more of you? Jesus responded with “IT IS WRITTEN”. What are you responding with? Is yoga Demonic?

  1. Dear Joan, hmm you did research oh Girl. Thanks for doing all that. I BALANCE BETWEEN THE 1ST AND 3RD TYPE OF PEOPLE READING THIS POST LOL. off caps now, you see, I am a soul searcher par excellence but I am Love and Freedom. Anything and I mean anything which makes me feel less love or less free in anyway, gets reviewed period. Not even Religion can be an exception. That’s me and everyone is entitled to theirs. I was offered a yoga lesson once in Brussels and ha, one you hear the price and all you need even the specific mat and all. Two, you try only basic postures and your 75 kg body still cries foul. I decided that was it. If even religious church going, bible reading and standing kneeling is hard for me to do, why go get into more conflict with myself all in the name of some attaining higher enlightenment etc? I love meditating but I use a book written by a man called James Allen, he was a Christian because he talks a lot about God, I also use a Course in Miracles written by a Jew or some Jews who were atheists until the big revelation from God of their mission to write that book haunted them for over 14 years. I don’t however follow to prescriptions on how to sit, breathe, think, and blablabla. I go to my bible every now and then, it always with me even in my kindle. In conclusion, I am unconventional in many ways. Any yoga lovers and other stuff lovers, it’s everyone’s choice. Thanks for writing this post darling, you did dare to put yourself out this much oh – a curly christian girl indeed

    1. Haha…I am reading your comment with so much concentration😂. Thanks for your honesty. I really appreciate it. And the pursuit of peace is quite a huge thing for me too so I detest conflicting practices, ideas and ways of doing things which is why I’m not very big on religion. But rather forming a genuine one on one relationship with God, minus all the doctrine…. Laughing at the price of the mat ooo😂😂. Wehhh…me that I am not even fit sef I won’t last a minute. There are many Christian authors too who write these devotionals and things like that and it helps people connect better with the word of God. So everyone does things differently. And you’re right at the end of the day, it’s up to people to do what they want honestly. We will all account for our lives one by one. I enjoyed reading your comment. Whop whop 🙌💞😄 Thank you!

  2. Ok, I have always had the impression that yoga is not just a physical exercise for balancing and attaining self realisation amidst other benefits as proclaimed by those who practice it but, also a spiritual exercise – my definition of spiritual also always tends more towards demonic. But, I never find interest into ascertaining my thoughts. This post however is an eye opener. Thanks for taking out time to research on the subject matter vis-a-vis the biblical excerpt you brought into the post. I hope to do more detailed study on this too.

    1. Waow…Thank you! I also never really asserted time to sit and confirm why I believed what I believed about Yoga until my friend asked me the question. If you find anything interesting do share as well! We need to be well informed these days cause it’s becoming more and more difficult to tell truth from lie!

  3. This is so interesting🙉! I’m legit so fascinated here, this made me realize the importance of knowing the history and meanings of something before committing to them 🙌. Lovely lovely post Joan 💕

    1. Hey Mbalenhle! I’m so glad it all resonated with you. The more I read about it, the more fascinated I was with just how twisted the whole thing is. And the scary thing is that all this information is not only true, but also readily available. I myself have decided to stay clear of anything seemingly questionable. Thank you!!! 💞💞💞

    1. I researched about Chakras, the history of yoga and Kundalini. But the biblical side was purely written. Till now I read the post and am amazed at how in depth it went scripturally. It’s honestly God. You’re welcome 😊😊

      1. Hehehe. You see now…I’m just here eating my donut, drinking my milkshake and minding my business ooo😂. Hmmmm…For now let me just be enjoying my food on this relaxing Saturday afternoon😂

  4. I came upon this thought a while back and debated whether or not I should continue doing yoga. But it’s clear as day what it stands for, and I refuse to stand for something that stands against Christ! Thank you for sharing this information. Very much needed (especially now a days where everyone wants to pick and choose what they want to follow instead of abiding by His Word wholeheartedly).

    1. Waow! Glory 💞 …Thanks for sharing your experiencing with Yoga too. We need to learn to call a spade a spade and move on like you did. Not stay there based on what society says. We only have the word to fall back on. Apparently there’s even something called Christian Yoga now. All the name fixing but still the same thing. Let God help us😅. God bless you Sis!

Babe, you truly did a great work and I appreciate that considering your super-tight schedule, you rolled out this master piece.

Yeah, I learnt a lot and I was actually waiting for this piece cos we spoke about it last week. You beat my imagination. I have also written about Rev Billy Graham as I promised and I hope it will bless you richly.
God bless you richly my curly Christian Oyinkansola.

    1. Hey Ola! In was sleeping at midnight daily this past week just to put this post together. It was like something was just pushing me to write. I known that was God. By his grace alone…I thought about sending you the link as soon as I posted it, then I got distracted. But alas, I knew you’ll come through. I did read the Billy Graham post yesterday 😜. I was to WhatsApp about it actually. Learnt a lot about him and I honestly never really really knew him like the way it seems people did. But waow, what a Man of God he was!

  6. This is really an insightful read! I’ve always been a pro-meditation person because it helps us relax, relieves stress, and helps our concentration. I however have not been a yoga person even though I generally don’t advice against it neither do I attach religion to it. For me, whatever rocks your boat!
I know also that yoga originated from Buddhism and other non-Christian religions and I know they perform some enchantments (or so) along while practicing it. People nowadays rarely do so though. To them, it’s just an exercise to sharpen the mind.
I’m trying to be as open-minded here as possible, without being religiously biased.
I must commend your efforts for attempting to research the roots of yoga-practice and your conclusion. It is quite informative and not to be swept under the carpet.

Good job Joan, I had a good read.

    1. Thanks so much Jessica! A lot of yoga these days is modernised to fade off the religious aspect so that it’s more attractive to people as a sport or just something fun to do, but the practical side of it is still very real here in SA. Normal stretching, and just relaxing as you say is good for the body…Physiotherapist even do this for a job cause it’s a medically sound practice. Its just this yoga now that one has to be weary of cause the supernatural world is very real whether we see it or not. I appreciate your straightness on the matter. 😄😄❤

  7. Wow. This was really in depth. I’ve never seen yoga in this light. I just knew it is claimed to help ease menstrual pains so yes, I tried it a couple of times but never thought it had an adverse spiritual backing. Thanks for sharing, girl. You have my week!

    1. Hey Tosin! Thank you so much. I was also abit skeptical about yoga but did not really understand the spiritual depth of it until God started revealing it. I was an am still shocked. The devil truly comes dressed as an angel of light, so if we are not careful, we can fall into his traps again and again just like Eve did. Much happiness to you too!!

  8. I’ve never really understood yoga, its concepts and ‘poses’. All I had in my head was that it has its origin in one or two Asian religions. That was all I needed not to be interested in it. This post is quite enlightening. You were thorough. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Wwwaaaaawwwwuuuu!!! Indeed you are BLESSED. You put it out there. I had nooo iiddeeaaa about any of this. The concept of yoga just sounded nice and that’s why I thought I’ll try it. But I realize that as a child of God, I shouldn’t be ignorant or shallow minded. I should dig deep into everything I invest my heart and soul into. There are forces out there far greater than me. As a child of God, I have to stick to Him. I’m so pleased with this post. God is working wonders on your blog thru u oh ma sis.

    1. Hey Courage! Amennnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I could not even close my eyes to sleep until I published this post. It was like something was pulling me to write and the words were just coming. The devil does come as an angel of light..He won’t bring us what we despise, he will bring us what we most desire all disguised under his deceit. May God help us oooo! I am so glad this post had an impact and my heart is just so soooo happy! I give God all the glory!

  10. Joan!!!!
I don’t even know what to say again.. Thank you for this.
I never really thought of this yoga thingy in this light.. but then God has been teaching me specially about how everyone at every point in time answers to something… if you aren’t answering to God, you surely are answering to something else… Such is the case in this yoga. Hmmm, minus the fact that me and exercise, fit fam, blah blah and two parallel! I always feel so unfit even climbing ordinary stairs at work… so yoga never exactly crossed my mind.
But this post for me is beyond yoga. Like you said its me looking what is normal and telling ‘the truth’ from a lie.. cos that guy called devil is a professional liar. You almost won’t tell the difference but for the Holy Spirit.
Thanks again Joan 🙂 You are such a huge inspiration!

    1. haha…Hey Amaka! We thank God for what has been brought to light. The devil is really cunning and is finding so many ways to make his agenda on earth seem “normal”, like yoga for example. I think we just need to keep our focus on God and answer to him alone, like you say. Otherwise we will become distracted by the things of this world. I appreciate your words soooooo very much and I’m so humbled. All Glory to Jesussssssssssss

  11. I read this post from start to finish. I didn’t miss a word. I knew there was something fishy about this yoga thing and even though I tried it once because I heard it aids hair growth, I didn’t bother with it again because I almost broke my back.
I once read a story of a woman who was doing yoga postures but chanting Jesus Jesus Jesus, she said when she started chanting Jesus, a force threw her across the room. That was when she knew she was in trouble with it. I love the way you explained everything in the post and supported your thinking with bible verses.
I think as Christians we should be careful what we let into our lives or our space.

    Cheers! xoxo…Fehintola

  12. Wow! This is such an awesome post! Thank you for your insight and for taking your time to research the subject. As Christians, often times things do get by us simply because we are not aware of the truth and have not been taught. I live by the belief that when you learn better you do better! We can not afford to be in aware of the things going on in the spirit realm. We live in the natural, but many things that are in the natural are attached to the supernatural.

We also have to learn to pray and seek God for insight and wisdom in everything that we do. We have to constantly pray to stay in God’s will for our lives. It is not God’s will for us to worship idols or do anything that resembles or entertains idol worship. God is a jealous God!!He will not be mocked. I do believe that God covers & protects us when we do something unknowingly, however if we knowingly continue to do the things that are outside of God’s will we will be held accountable for it.

Thank you again for researching this and allowing the Holy Spirit to give you the boldness that you needed to share it. I am sure that you knew that you would get some negative feedback, but it’s a small price to pay for being obedient to the Holy Spirit.

Many blessings to you and your family! Continue to allow God to use you.

    1. Thanks so much Nekia! You’ve said it all…The supernatural is more real than the natural. We need to wake up and know our word! It’s the only truth that can guide us!

  13. Well I do yoga once in a while… To stretch my body.. Let’s say I stop calling it yoga, let’s say I’m stretching. To me, until now, yoga was just a part of my workout routine to calm myself.
I don’t really go so deep into the yoga thing, just do a few stretches… I don’t know, but I think the intentions matter too. If you go so deep with the spiritual in mind, then…. 🤷

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Hey!!😁… Forgive my delayed reply😅. I’ve been offline for a while. Intentions do matter and stretching is absolutely harmless. The way some of us are so unfit ey, we can’t even do simple stretching😂😂 (me). But it actually has a lot of benefits. It’s the real practice of Yoga that becomes more than just stretching. Thank you! Xoxo

  14. Wow! I actually needed to read this. Girl, you are such a theologist. I took a sports class for a week, and learnt that even sports have religious backgrounds. Everything we do is linked to some sort of religion, and we have to be careful (It baffles me how someone will come and say we are delusional for being spiritual, when everything about the world screams supernatural) That one is story for another day. I loved learning about the history of yoga from this, so eye opening. I’m about to share with my friends, can’t be opening doors to unknown spirits. God bless you boo.

    1. Hey Oyin 💞. Thanks so much for all the love on my recent posts 😭😭😭❤. I appreciate it! I’m so glad we share the same knowledge that many things are more supernatural than we think. Infact the spirit world is more real than this physical world. And before things occur in the physical, they manifest in the supernatural… Yet God’s people continue to fall prey to harmful spiritual things, for lack of knowledge 😞. Thanks for sharingggggggg ❤🙌🙌🙌🙌

  16. so when I started reading I was like where is this leading to; then I got to the story of Adam and Eve in relation to the yoga process then I picked this- the act of disobedience to God (sin) opened the eyes of Adam and Eve so opening a third eye which I don’t see as necessary has to be opened through sin. Another part I really loved was the how do I meditate part and the text used to support it Romans 12 vs 2 I picked that you do not have to do what is not right that the world is doing to Focus.

  17. This is such an interesting read! I take yoga as a physical activity for a P.E class, and I’ve always believed you could just use it for stretching, and not spiritual things. I think I need to take a step back around that after reading this post, though. But I do have one question: do you believe there’s such thing as Christian yoga? I’ve read several articles that discuss it, but none of them made a whole lot of sense.

    1. Hey Beth! Thank you for your honesty 😊. I am not one to make statements when I do not fully understand something, but I personally don’t feel “Christian Yoga” is a genuine thing. It’s like mixing oil and water cause Yoga in itself is a carnal practice which opens people up to spirits. It’s like saying “Christian Zodiac signs” … If it’s normal stretching that’s okay…but the specificity of the poses in yoga just make it dodgy. Maybe they’re calling it “Christian yoga” while it’s just stretching, cause they don’t understand what yoga actually entails. I think you could ask some direct questions to your Christian yoga instructor and pray the Holy Spirit reveals to you all truths about what’s really going on. God bless!

  18. I’m so glad that you made this post. I can’t wait to share it. I’ve never had to debate this topic because I know there’s something wrong with yoga. I actually did an internship at a wellness center for my final year of university with my professor. They had Buddha and all this statutes. Even one of the people who worked there tried to give me a book on Buddhism telling me that this was the fastest religion in Africa. You made very great points in every angle but I love how you talked about what it meant to meditate as believers and also how it is very important not to engage in everything. A lot of times, the root of many people engaging in many things is that they don’t do their research. They think it’s just stretching their bones and exercising. It’s much deeper than that but some will argue that it’s nothing. We must stay rooted in the word of God. It should be our daily intake of food. I just recently joined your blog so just catching up to your posts. Thank you for taking the time to share this post with us Joan. God bless you 🙏🏿😊

I’ve been away for a while trying to catch up with life, but I am back and ready to blog again. In our generation people just dive into trends and activities without knowing the background of these things. May God help us discern what is true and what is false. The devil masquerades as an angel of light … we can’t undermine his devices 😅
