8 Things I Do To Improve My Productivity At Work | Simple Life Hacks

That is how people will start saying, because Joan is working we will not drink water again in this life ๐Ÿ˜ญ! – Totally something I will tell my sisters or friends just to find trouble๐Ÿ˜‚! But please, it is with all humility and gratitude that I write this post. So don’t get it twisted abegiiii. I for one know that God worked a miracle in this regard, so I can’t merit it to my doing. Meanwhile how has your first week of March been? I can’t believe we’re in March already though! Like!!!!!!!!

It has been such a hectic period of transition for me, and it seems God is just getting started. So although I am physically unpacked, I am emotionally and spiritually in motion. To where? Only God knows. I’ve learnt to never really settle because God is progressive. Me being stagnant will only block his will for my life. Do you relate?

So it’s been 2 months since I started my community service, and so far I have made some mistakes that affected my productivity at times. I’ve also kept tabs of the things I did which enabled me to work more efficiently. So here are the lessons I’ve learnt so far, which have helped keep me in check.

1. PACK LUNCH

Of cause food had to be at the top of my list! I cannot emphasize enough the importance of packing lunch, with snacks to have in-between. Except if you’re fasting, then Ashia or as the Yoruba’s will say “Pelรฉ”.ย I don’t know what came over me on the days that I did not pack lunch. My concentration is poor when I’m hungry and I get hungry so often! So now I pack a healthy lunch with small chops to have through out the day.

2. GET SUFFICIENT STATIONERY

I shared my daily essentials on my IG Story (Work Highlights) but forgot to include a black pen! I cannot go a day without using a black pen, calculator and exam pad. I keep a black pen in every bag I use, at work and at home. Is it just me or pens have a way of developing legs and disappearing after 2 weeks? Every weekend, I check to make sure I have all the stationery I need for the following week. If not, then I buy and stock up. That way you should never run out of stationery during the week.

3. RECAP & REORGANIZE

Who else loves making lists? I can make a list for literally everything . “People to call”, “Things to buy”, ” documents to print”, “Don’t forget to…”. It’s so easy to forget all these “things to do!” which can lead to a messy day. So at night after supper, I always recap on the day and write down the things I need to do the next day with regards to work and personal life. I prioritize the list, putting the most important work related tasks first. Then I go to sleep knowing exactly what needs to be done the following day. Yay!

4. KEEP HYDRATED

Fatigue, sleepiness and just general slowness will be your portion if you don’t keep hydrated during the day! And I don’t mean energy drinks…I mean water! I have noticed that the days when I have my water bottle at work, I drink more water and feel more energized during the day. Whereas without my water bottle, I can go a whole day without water, even though we have plenty taps at work. So I think the trick is getting yourself a pretty water bottle and filling it up with water daily! The aim will be to get all that water down by the end of the day. It’ll be easier to remember to drink water if you can actually see the water!

5. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!

If you have a positive attitude towards your work, it will rub off on those around you and you will find that you actually have a good day…everyday! Even if you’re tired or down that for a day, just being polite and respectful towards others will demand the same from them towards you. Which equals good interactions and a less stressful day. Acknowledge that you are doing your best, and don’t make too many demands on yourself otherwise you will become overwhelmed ๐Ÿ˜….

6. COMMUNICATION IS KEY!

I’ve had to do so much of this this past 2 months. Constantly asking questions to understand the “What/Where/Who/Why and Hows”. Never think you know enough. If you’re unsure about something, instead of assuming, just ask someone who knows better. It will save you a lot of time wasting trying to figure it out yourself.

Communication is also two ways, so it’s important to keep your ears to the ground and listen for any new updates in your place of work. Even just listening to those who’ve worked for many years speak about their experiences will help you learn and mature. Also share your office/cell phone number and emails with the immediate people you work with, so that they may be able to contact you, if something comes up!

7. LOOK SMART

My work wardrobe is not yet where I want it to be ๐Ÿ˜‚. But I’m probably just being very extra and envisioning some Patricia Bright kind of walk-in wardrobe ๐Ÿ˜‚. But we shall get there oooo. Dressing smart makes you feel confident and ready to slay the day! I take this very seriously because I meet new people everyday, and I believe they may decide to take me seriously firstly based on how I look, then secondly how I speak. And I know I don’t have a problem with speaking, so I have to look the part to match ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

I’m also trying to take better care of my skin #Teardrop. The break outs have been annoying and honestly I’m not really into skin care routines and using countless beauty products. My face is sometimes really oily and other times super dry, so I’ve been looking for a lotion that will perfectly suit me. And then it just hit me last month…why not try baby oil – Johnson’s Baby Aqueous Cream!

Like babies have such soft skin cause of this stuff๐Ÿ™Œ. The lotion does not contain a lot of chemicals, it is pH balanced, perfectly suited for any kind of skin…I mean I’ve never seen a baby with oily/dry skin if they used Johnson’s baby, so I gave it a try ๐Ÿ˜‚. And guys! Can I just tell you that this stuff has been amazing… I even use it as my primer now and have noticed that my makeup stays put all day๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ. I feel like I’ve just discovered something life changing here ๐Ÿ˜‚. My face is no longer oily/dry…it’s just nice and moisturized. So if you can be crazy like me, try it and let me know what you think! I’m I weird? Yes…will I change? Absolutely not!

8. EXCEL FOR GOD, NOT MAN

Do it for the Lordddddddd! When I’m doing something at work I always ask myself, will God be proud of how I’m handling this situation? If Jesus was here right now, will he say “well done my child, you did the best you could?”. You see, as Christians we have to strive for excellence in everything we do, to bring glory to God, not just in church but life as a whole. We have to remember whose children we are and be ambassadors for Jesus – A walking, breathing billboard of the gospel.

Let others look at your workmanship and say waow, surely he/she is a child of the most high God! And for your good works, it is God who will reward you. Take no short cuts, tell no lies, stay away from gossip, be someone of integrity, be reliable, be honest! People will not always be there to see your good works, but God sees all, and it is He who will reward you for a job well done!

  1. Meal prep! I’ve recently gotten into that…well I was, and now I’m living out of a hotel for a while. But when I get back home I plan to start up again!
